Omree and I recorded some tunes we love. I believe we were thinking "sophisticated ballads", and something quiet. Piano and tenor saxophone. Playing beautiful tunes. Deeply intuitively. The album is called “The Single Petal of a Rose”

We wanted to let the compositions carry the weight rather than showcase ourselves. There's Duke Ellington, Monk, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter - masters who wrote melodies that say everything they need to say. We approached each piece by listening to what it asked for, staying inside the emotional world of the tune. The album feels like a conversation between two people who trust the silence as much as the sound.

Balm for our time
— Jayn Pettingill, KCSM Radio

We recorded at Bird & Egg Studios with Nino Moschella engineering. The setup was simple - just the two of us in the room, no headphones, playing together the way we do live. We'd run through a tune once or twice to find its temperature, then capture it. Most of what you hear are early takes, sometimes first takes. We didn't want to overthink it or lose that initial spark. Nino understood we were after something intimate and direct, so the production stays out of the way - it's about capturing the room, the instruments, the moment.
